On Thursday, November 19th, 2020, many friends and family gathered for a tree planting ceremony presented by the Hunterdon County Soil Conservation District in memory of John Van Nuys at Blackwell Park.
The Hunterdon County Soil Conservation District planted a Dawn Redwood tree to honor John’s 50 year’s of service (1970-2020) as a Chairman to the Conservation District.
Dawn Redwoods are fast-growing conifers known as redwoods that will grow to at least 165 feet in height. They chose this tree because they wanted it to be the tallest tree in the park to represent John, not only because he was known for his tall stature, but also his big heart and dedication to the Conservation District.
In addition to the tree, a sign was erected on a lit post to commemorate his memory and years of service.
